Raise the Bar's ’Spotlight’ events have an extended poetry open mic aiming to champion, nurture and platform local artists putting the spotlight on Bath and the South West's outstanding emerging talent pool, providing a relaxed and welcoming environment for newbies, veterans and anybody in between to perform their work in a safe space. It’s a perfect opportunity to perform to a warm and intimate audience at the lovely Komedia Arts Cafe in the centre of Bath, or to just sit back and watch some great poetry for a cheap price.
Tickets are available on the door only for this event. Please arrive promptly if you wish to sign up for the open mic on the door!
ARTS CAFÉ: Rowed Seating. Arrive early for the best seats. Please contact us if you have specific access requirements.
In 2001, Brenda Read-Brown gave up a secure career as a project manager to be a poet; it seemed a good idea at the time. Since then she’s won many poetry slams, and performed her poetry on Radio 4, and in Texas, Denmark, lots of festivals, and any number of low dives. She is the current Gloucestershire Poet Laureate, and has published a collection of her poems, called Arbitrary edges; her new collection, Like love, is due out soon. She’s also a prizewinning playwright. So far, she seems to be getting away with it all, but she’s sure she’ll be found out some day soon.
